Naada Inbam, Ragasudha Hall, Chennai


Naada Inbam, during the December Music Season 2015-16 at Chennai, featured Vocal Concert of S Mahadevan from Thiruvananthapuram, a disciple of  Vidushi Padmashri Parassala B Ponnammal.

Mahadevan was accompanied on the Violin by Sri R Raghul. The percussion duo Sumesh Narayanan (Mridangam) and H Sivaramakrishnan (Ghatam) made a formidable combination.

The concert began with Swathi’s Saveri Padavarnam, followed by Girirajasutha in Bangla composed by Saint Thyagaraja. A variety of krithis like Kanden Kalitheernthen (Neelakanta Sivan composition in Sahana), Kumara Ettendra’s Gajavadana in Thodi ragam and Koteeswara Iyer’s Mohanakara Muthukumara in rare melakarta ragam Neethimathi was presented before the main piece.

Sathatham Thavaka, a Swathi Thirunal composition in the raga Kharaharapriya was chosen as the main krithi.

Nee Samaganapriye, a rare composition of Great Vidwan Sri V Dakshinamoorthy in the raga Chandrakauns, was presented by explaining that there are 24 Swaraksharas in this composition. Lengthy Mamava Pattabhirama was requested by a music lover to be rendered.

Mahadevan concluded the concert with Sindhubhairavi bhajan Namo Namo Raghavaya Anisam, which is known to be the first composition of Saint Thyagaraja.
